This is based on HaM metaphysics -- the idea that the beings who "seeded" Jusenkyo springs have their spirits trapped in the springs. It fits into HaM continuity but I decided not to bill it as a HaM future story in hopes that people who hadn't read HaM would read it. Some people have accused me of being an Ukyo-basher; I hope they'll look at this to see that I am capable of writing the character sympathetically.
